Projects that involve multiple trades (even if actually done by the same workers) normally require a General Contractor. 

There are many reasons why.  First, when several trades are involved, the work must be done in the correct sequence.  A specific trade may not tell you that you have asked them to do their work in the wrong sequence, especially for a small job when by telling you to have them come back later results in another trip to your job site and the evaporation of their profit.
