If you are considering a General Contractor for a project that you think only involves one non-framing trade (like roofing), ask the General Contractor you are considering if they will be allowed to perform the work needed.  Sometimes even though you thought only one trade was involved, other trades will be needed (such as in the roofing and HVAC example provided).  You can always check with the regulatory agency for the state (or community) you live in if the General Contractor tells you only one trade is needed and they are still legally able to do the work.
