Another important factor in your own cost estimate relates to the size and complexity of the job.  No matter who is actually doing the work (and that includes yourself), every task within a project requires setup time and tear down / clean up time at the end.  In most cases there will also be travel time to and from the job.

Keep in mind that most work requires at least someone who is going to do the work (or at least supervise it) to travel to the job site to inspect and decide the materials required.  In many cases, different experts will be doing separate parts of the work so for small projects, the costs associated with organizing materials, travel, setup and cleanup might be as much or more than the actual costs of the work to be done.
